Yoga - Cat-Cow Pose

Yoga - Cat-Cow Pose

I am a devout yogi and certified yoga instructor, and I'd like to share one of my favorite yoga poses with you. The Cat-Cow pose is a powerful move as it stimulates the organs in the belly, kidneys and adrenals while also improving your posture.

I like to start my yoga practice with Cat-Cow as a way to warm up the spine and relieve any tension in the back and neck. - Veronica

The Cat-Cow Pose

Begin on all fours, in tabletop position - knees on the ground directly under your hips and your palms on the ground with your wrists directly under your shoulders.

Yoga Table Top Position

With your hands pressing firming on your mat, inhale and arch your back, let your belly relax. Lift your chin up toward the sky. Your body should form the shape of a U.

Yoga Cow Pose

As you exhale your breath, tuck your chin into your chest and round your back toward the ceiling. Pull your stomach in, imagine you are zipping your belly button into your spine so that your body is in an arch.

Yoga Cat Pose

Continue to move with your breath, inhaling as you move into cow and exhaling as you move into cat. Move through this 5 - 10 times before slowly coming back into tabletop position to release.

Done regularly, you will begin to experience the health benefits of this important move, including...

  • Stretches muscles of the hips, back and abdomen
  • Stimulates organs, especially the gastrointestinal tract
  • Aids breathing by stretching chest and lungs
  • Relieves lower back pain and sciatica
